Why should you read to your baby? Brainy Bambino shares how reading to baby can sculpt your child's future intellectual growth and success.

Parents who wonder what they can do at home to help their baby become a good reader and lifelong learner are ones who really care about the future success of their child.

Reading to baby from birth is one of the simplest and cheapest activities that promote intellectual growth than any other tool.

There is a simple formula that explains how a baby or child can get better at reading and it's very easy!

  • The more a baby is read to, the better they become at listening; the better they become at this, the more they like it; the more they like it, the more they want to do it!
  • When a baby can read or a child can read, the more they learn. The more they learn, the more they know and consequently, the brighter they become. It really is this simple!

How can something so simple such as reading to your baby be so effective?

There are really only two main ways that you can teach a baby new words - through the eye and ear. Since it is too early for a baby to use their eyes for reading, meaningful sounds and words can easily be absorbed by the ears, which in turn help the eye make sense of words as they become ready to read. They will have heard these familiar words before.

Reading to baby also:

  • builds a strong vocabulary (essential as grounding before they go to school);
  • creates background knowledge which prepares their mind to consistently understand new concepts;
  • trains baby's brain to relate reading with enjoyment and pleasure;
  • shows baby that we love to read (babies and children primarily love to imitate their parents) so we're providing a reading role model.

A VERY important note:

As humans in general, it is known that we are drawn to activities that cause great pleasure, and turn away from activities which cause pain or displeasure. This applies to virtually all that we do.

It is so essential and important that parents and carers help their baby enjoy reading books. Every time you read to your baby, you need to send pleasurable messages to their brain so they are drawn to reading and want to do it more and more. The Brainy Bambino My Baby Can Read Program teaches parents how to do this.
